Title : The tidal-rotational shape of the Moon and evidence for polar wander

Abstract : The origin of the lunar shape has been a puzzle since Laplace first considered it in 1799. Understanding the origin of the lunar shape would have a variety of implications for the Moon's thermal and tidal-orbital evolution. Using GRAIL gravity data and Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter topography data, we find that a combination of two different, early tidal processes are responsible for the Moon's present shape. We discuss the implications for the Moon's orientation, and ways to further test these findings with lunar magnetic anomalies.
