¡Ü ÁÖÁ¦ : Wave-particle interactions in Earth's Radiation Belts

Abstract
Earth's outer electron radiation belt is subject to great variability on a wide range of timescales. Wave-particle interactions comprise a main controlling influence on radiation belt
dynamics. Acceleration and loss mechanisms of radiation belt electrons include cyclotron resonant interactions with various types of plasma wave including VLF chorus, ELF hiss, and EMIC waves. In this introductory talk,we outline how timescales for the acceleration and loss of radiation belt electrons due to these wave modes can be estimated.
