Abstract

The upper atmosphere is the nearest part of geospace, to which human activities extend. Many satellites inhabit this region, and communications with satellites and distant ground objects are done with radio waves propagating through and/or reflecting at the ionosphere. Spatial and temporal variations of the thermosphere and ionosphere influence satellite orbits and condition of radio wave communication. In this talk, we will introduce our observation networks over Japan and Southeast Asia to monitor the ionosphere as well as our research activitity of developing a whole atmosphere-ionosphere coupled model to nowcast and forecast the upper atmospheric states.
