Title : Development of a real-time numerical simulator using next generation magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling global MHD simulation.

Abstract :
We are developing a real-time numerical simulator for the solar wind- -magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling system using next generation magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling global MHD simulation called REPPU (REProduce Plasma Universe) code. The feature of simulation has an advanced robustness to strong solar wind case because a triangular grid is used, which is able to calculate in the uniform accuracy over the whole region. Therefore we can simulate extreme event such as the Bastille day storm. We are investigating the reproduction of the magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling simulation in strong solar wind case. In this talk, I will introduce the results of the Bastille day event and discuss the problem.
Global MHD simulation of the magnetospheric response to large and sudden enhancement of the solar wind dynamic pressure.
A large and sudden enhancement of the dynamic pressure in the solar wind generates a geomagnetic sudden commencement (SC). The magnetic field variation of SC at auroral latitudes shows a bipolar change which consists of preliminary impulse (PI) and main impulse (MI). Interestingly, Araki et al. [1997] reported an anomalously large-amplitude SC of more than 200 nT with an unusually spiky waveform at low latitude. Such a super SC is the target of this study. We investigate the large-amplitude SC when a large solar wind dynamic pressure impinges on the magnetosphere using next generation magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling simulation. In this talk, we will discuss the mechanisms of super SC.
